Internationally Acclaimed Youth Choir
The internationally acclaimed South African Youth Choir (SAYC) is one of the most exciting choral projects in the world today. Since its inception in 2005, the SAYC has showcased its vast abilities on both local and international platform, entertaining a variety of audiences across the globe. Under the direction of Phil Robinson, who took over the reigns as conductor in 2013, the Choir has been awarded “ Best Youth Choir” at the prestigious ATKV Animato International Choir Competition in 2014 and 2015 and the “ Best Regional Choir 19 years and younger” at the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod.
The choir has positioned itself as one of the most sought-after performance choirs in the country and regularly performs with local and International artists.
The choir does not only promote the unique musical product of an international standard, but also endorses raw and exceptional South African Youth Talent.
The Choir currently consists of 54 high school learners and students between the ages of 15 and 22 years from all over South Africa and representing the diverse cultures of this beautiful country. In the true spirit of UBUNTU, the SAYC is a human project that celebrates unity within cultural diversity.
The Choir brings together exceptionally talented young singers from all over our beautiful and diverse country, giving them the opportunity to excel on artistic and scholastic level in the undisputed hub of South African choral singing today - the Northern Suburbs of beautiful Cape Town.
Since 2005 this fabulous choir, accommodated at the Durbanville High School Hostel, has been developed into a unique musical product of international standard and won a gold diploma at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in Wales in 2006. International media hailed the choir as a true export product of South Africa.
The choir members are committed to artistic excellence. Many members come from disadvantaged areas and are orphans. They are the raw talent of South Africa. The choir offers them a voice and hope. They dare to dream.
