Richard Antrobus completed his BA (Hons) in Drama at Rhodes University in 2004, and MA Drama in Contemporary Performance in 2010. He also holds a Diploma at the London School of Physical Theatre and has worked as a resident performer for First Physical Theatre Company and performed with SlungLow Theatre Company. He is the founder and Director of the Phezulu Project in 2009, which has since expanded to form the OddBody Theatre Collaborative NPO – a community circus-skills and performance development initiative. Richard was the recipient of a Standard Bank Ovation “Encore” Award 2011 and awarded a GIPCA fellowship at U.C.T. in 2012. In 2013, Antrobus was named as one of Mail & Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans.  He worked as an independent performance artist and collaborated with Magnet Theatre, Assitej and Clowns Without Borders. He featured in a short independent film, “Man on the Line”, in 2014 and has also featured on local and international TV advertisements for QASA, Auto-trader, King Price & Weber, as well as featured on “Black Sails”,  “SAF3” and “Dominion (TBC) TV series’ respectively. In 2014 Richard collaborated with ComNet, taught at Rondebosch Boys High, UCT, and Magnet Theatre and performed “Being Norm” at Obz Fam Fest, NAF and Cape Town Fringe. He was also selected for the Cirque du Soleil International Performer database. For 2015, Richard is part of the Assitej Inspiring a Generation Programme, while continuing to educate and entertain as an independent performing artist, actor and consultant. Richard is a light-hearted, yet highly committed performer with a keen interest and enthusiasm in the whole spectrum of theatre and cultural development: ranging from acting and mime to multi-media such as video and projection to acrobatics, circus and dance.
